“God knows how often I pray for you. Day and night I bring you and your needs in prayer to God, whom I serve with all my heart by spreading the Good News about his Son.” (Romans 1:9, NLT).
A language survey trip was recently conducted throughout Nigeria by teams of expatriates and Nigerians. Language surveyors help identify which languages have the most urgent needs for Bible translation, as well as which dialect(s) of those languages would be the best basis for translated Scripture as well as for developing literature. From six trips in the last two years, Bible translation projects have started in two Nigerian languages–Koro Wachi and Obaniku. There are also twelve other active Nigerian Bible translation projects among languages that have been surveyed since 2006.
- Praise God for progress made in Nigeria to assess more languages, a key step in the goal to see that all Nigeria’s people groups will one day have access to Scriptures in the language of their hearts!
- Pray for the translation projects that have begun as a result of the survey trips. Pray that God’s Word would flourish in these communities.
- Pray for wisdom and endurance for language survey teams all over the world, as they assess language communities and their need for Bible translation.

Language surveyors are the unsung heroes of Great Commission work !
Mark,
I understand from a translator that they don’t use the term “dialect” any more but rather use the term “variation”. I see you using the term “dialect”. Can you educate me on this issue? thanks-mf
